Increase climate friendly mobility in your city and region!
|
The availability of climate friendly transport means could be increased in most cities and regions. In recent years, besides the increased accessibility of trains and buses as well as an extended network of bike paths, the interconnection of public transportation with bike travel and the complimentary relationship between the two means have come more into focus. Travel by bike optimises transportation by bus and train. The particular excellence in train travel lies in fast transport over long distances, while the bike, in contrast, features smaller scale transportation. Previous efforts at promoting this relationship were concentrated on private bikes (bike stoppages at train stations, entrainment in public transport). But with this approach, essential measures couldn't be developed and important customer groups couldn't be addressed. Particularly for the dispersion from destination stations, are bikes unavailable to most customers of public transportation. This loophole could be closed by the integration of public bikes. With inclusion of the bike, public transportation could challenge car use with a competitive transportation service even in times of short public funds.
Public Bikes could deliver various services:
- Adapted transport mode for city centres, such as a shopping bike, equipped with a transport box specially suited for visiting several retail shops
- Completion of train, bus, car and ship transportation (intermodal use)
- Closure of spatial and temporal gaps of public transport
- Transport connection of afield locations and events to public transport or parking sites
- Bikes for tourists in cities or rural holiday areas
- Staff bikes for public administration employees
- Transport service for big university or science areas
Bike rental machine - new technology for more possibilities and great flexibility:
- Flexible choice of locations through compact design and independence of the rental machine
- Easy assembling and dismantling of rental stations and simple scaling of the station size through modular system architecture and therefore easy adaptation of the supply to changing demand (learning infrastructure)
- Choice of the access technology, one option is the electronic ticketing for public transportation
- Choice of bike types, also the parallel supply of several bike types is possible
- Realisation of different operational modes
- Special design for the rental of electric bikes available
- Low system costs
Public transportation now offers more! Shortly also in your city/region?
The Climate Alliance is looking for cities and regions interested in the extension of their public transportation by the integration of public bikes
pdf 101 KB. With the first interested cities/regions the Climate Alliance will introduce a model project. In addition to knowledge transfer and accompanying public relations, the Climate Alliance will also work for the application of project funds.
